We have seen many examples of this type, but never one quite like this. The figures on either side are the strangest juxtaposition of neo-classical and country bumpkin (the two main categories of early Staffordshire figures). Why are they together? They are on either side of a wonderful plinth topped by three green dolphins which supports the chamber for the watch. Atop this are two yellow snakes.

The base measures 7.5" across and the height is 9.5". There is some restoration to the boy's arm and to the snakes on the top. But who cares? It's such an unusual example of early Prattware.
