This is a wonderful creamware 10" plate with a large central transfer of a lady with an anchor and an American ship in the distance. At the top of the transfer is the word "HOPE." This is often associated with Rhode Island, although the Rhode Island coat of arms does not usually include a human figure.
|
The border has six transfers of birds. There is no mark on the plate, although a similar piece in David Arman's book is attributed to Herculaneum.

Circa 1800.
