SOLD The Vicar and Moses |
A Staffordshire figure depicting the tale of the vicar who was sipping a little something as he preached, and Moses, his clerk, delivering the sermon. There was a song about these two characters in the 18th century, and although we can't find a copy of it, apparently it caught the imagination of the potters, as there are many versions of this figure. This version is not one we have seen before, and is quite appealing with its orange pew and bright yellow swagged border. English, circa 1820. 9 1/2" tall, and no damage or restoration. |
