Cammillieri was a port painter—one of the artists who hung around the ports of Europe waiting for an opportunity to get a commission to paint a ship in the harbor. The Token of Boston was in Malta in 1834, and her captain, Ziba Eldridge (from Cape Cod) had this portrait of his ship done with his name proudly spelled out across the bottom. Mounted in a period gilt frame measuring 21†x 27†overall. |
