Brass Monteith |
Where did the term "monteith" come from? According to the dictionary, it was the mane of a Scottish eccentric in the 17th century who always wore a cloak with a notched hem. I guess it's similar to the word "silhouette" being named after an eccentric French minister of finance who liked to play with his scissors. At any rate, presented here is a nice French brass example, dating from the early 19th century. It measures 13" wide and is in excellent condition, with no dents. |
