Brass and Tin Bouillotte Lamp |
Bouillotte lamps were popular in France in the early 1800s and on, and were used on game tables where the game of bouillotte was played. The game is similar to poker, and the lamps almost always have small trays on the bottom so the players could put their gambling chips in them. This example has its original adjustable tole shade with a key to tighten it (so the shade could be lowered as the candle burned down). It is in excellent condition, and measures 11½" tall. |
