Ceramics
19th Century
Sunderland Lustre Masonic Jug
This large (7½" tall) Masonic jug has a rare transfer depicting the Masonic Coat of Arms with three Masons attired in their Masonic aprons. The reverse side has a transfer of a Masonic verse surrounded by a wreath that includes Masonic symbols.
Research on this transfer reveals only one other example; a Worcester mug c. 1770. This jug was made for HH in 1819. I'm sure that with more digging, one could find other examples, but none show up in either book on lustre.
The only damage is a bit of "nibbling" on the tip of the spout. Dated pieces are scarce, and this one is a super example.
