Mary Belton, a young British girl, finished this sampler on March 24th, 1827. Her verse on industry sums up all that was taught to young children: Industry is not only the instrument of improvement but the foundation of pleasure for nothing is so opposite to the true enjoyment of life as the relaxed and feeble state of an indolent mind."
|
The sampler is in good condition with only a little bit of staining around the verse, which is surrounded by lovely cross-stitched flowers.
