Possibly made in 1784 to commemorate the first air balloon flight in England. If not for that occaision, then just because air ballooning became all the rage in the 1780s, and there were many items of all sorts produced to celebrate this new mode of transportation. These mirror rests have beaded brass rims, and condition is good, although there are some cracks on each one, but nothing that merits restoration. A Rare pair! 1 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" tall. |
