This jug was made for Edward Charman in 1838. It probably commemorated his birth. Research reveals that the Dorking (Surrey, England) registers (1538-1840 baptisms & burials) & Holmwood 1838-1840) confirm the baptism of Edward at Holmwood. 'Edward son of John Okeshot of Dorking, waiter & Elizabeth Charman of Holmwood, maidservant, 25/12/1838'.

So little Edward was an illegitimate child, but it appears that his parents lived near each other, although each went on to marry someone else.

Notice the beautiful verses (the side not shown has the typical "When This You See" etc.).

Restoration is limited to a small touch-up on the spout, otherwise perfect.
