Lucius Briggs was born in Rhode Island in 1852. and worked mostly in Boston and New Bedford, Massachusetts. This portrait depicts the packet ship leaving New York’s Harbor Castle Island with New Jersey in the background and a rowboat in the foreground.

Signed lower left, the painting has been restored to its original condition and is mounted in a period gold frame measuring 23” by 28” overall.
