A Edouart, Saratoga Springs, 1840 |
Edouart spent a lot of time traveling the United States taking silhouettes of the great and the not-so-great. This couple had their portraits cut in Saratoga Springs, NY, a favorite spa of the time. For some reason, they chose not to have their names put on the silhouette, so they remain an anonymous couple (despite the fact that they've been together for over 150 years). The background is hand painted in a sepia wash, probably by Edouart himeself. The silhouette is in its original gold frame, which measures 13¼" by 11¼" overall. |
